Questions, Answered

What people ask us most about silk, zari, delivery and returns — answered plainly.

How can I tell whether a Kanchipuram silk saree is genuine?

Look at the border join and the weave. A real Kanchipuram korvai border is woven separately and interlocked with the body, so the join is visible where the two meet. Handloom cloth also carries small irregularities across the weave, where powerloom output is uniform. Every piece we ship carries a card naming the weaver, the cluster, the loom type and the date it came off the loom.

What is Silk Mark, and do your sarees carry it?

Silk Mark is a hologram issued by the Silk Mark Organisation of India certifying pure silk. Our pure mulberry silk pieces carry it, stitched to the pallu rather than glued, and each hologram has its own serial number.

What is the difference between pure zari and tested zari?

Pure zari is silver thread with a gold wash wound on a silk core — heavier, warmer in tone, and it ages rather than flakes. Half-fine zari has a lower silver content and is priced accordingly. Tested zari is copper-based and used on lighter pieces. Whichever is used, it is stated on the product page.

Where is your saree shop in Coimbatore?

Sri Laxmi Silks is at No 42, Murugan Shopping Complex, Big Bazaar Street, Uppukinar Lane, Near Pothys, Town Hall, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu 641001. You can also reach us on +91 97894 67448.

Do you deliver sarees across India?

Yes. Orders are despatched within three days, and delivery then takes three to ten days depending on your location. Tracking reaches you by WhatsApp and SMS the moment the parcel ships.

Can I return a saree if it is not what I expected?

No — we do not accept returns for size, style or preference, because each piece is one of a kind. We exchange defective pieces only, and the exchange is done in person at our Town Hall shop. Message us on WhatsApp as soon as you open the parcel, with your order ID and an unedited video of it being opened showing the fault; then bring the piece in with its tags whenever you are able to. There is no deadline on the visit, but the report needs to be prompt, because that is what lets us raise it with the courier. Exchanges cannot be completed by post or online. Ask us for extra photographs or a video before you order — far better than an exchange afterwards.

Why do you need a video to accept an exchange?

A saree can be damaged in transit, and the unboxing video is the only thing that shows the condition it reached you in. Without it we cannot raise a claim with the courier. Start recording before you cut the packaging and keep filming in one take until the piece is unfolded and the fault is visible. The same video is required for a cancellation claim, so record it every time, even when nothing looks wrong.

How do I track my order?

Use the order ID from your confirmation together with the mobile number you gave at checkout, on the Track Order page. Tracking details also reach you by WhatsApp and SMS as soon as the parcel leaves us.

Why do two sarees of the same design look slightly different?

Because they were woven by hand. Slight variation in the weave, and in dye taken up between batches, is characteristic of handloom cloth rather than a fault — it is the difference between a woven piece and a printed one.
